Railroad town, hotel history

Cisco grew from a frontier settlement called Red Gap. When the Houston and Texas Central Railway crossed the Texas and Pacific here in 1881, residents moved the town to the junction, and it was renamed for New York financier John A. Cisco. A few decades later, the Eastland County oil boom filled the town with workers, and in 1919 a young banker named Conrad Hilton arrived hoping to buy a bank. When that deal fell through, he bought the Mobley Hotel instead. It was the first hotel Hilton ever owned, and the restored building now serves as the Conrad Hilton Center at 309 Conrad Hilton Blvd.

North of town, Lake Cisco, impounded on Sandy Creek in the 1920s and also known as Williamson Dam, supplies city water and draws anglers. Cisco College's main campus sits on a hill just north of town as well.

Cisco homes and buildings

Cisco's long history means a wide range of roofs. Close to downtown and the old rail corridor, many houses date back several generations, with additions, porches, and roof sections built at different times. Those transitions are where leaks like to hide. Homes on the outskirts and near the lake tend to be newer, while commercial buildings downtown often have parapet walls and long roof runs that need clean drainage. Wherever your property is, the first step is the same: an honest look at what's up there.

Storm country

Cisco knows severe weather. The town was struck by a deadly tornado in 1893, and spring thunderstorms still bring the risk of hail, damaging wind, and sudden heavy rain to this part of West Central Texas. Summers are long and hot, which dries out shingles and slowly strips their granules. Winter usually stays mild, though a freeze or a coating of ice now and then can stress a roof that's already worn.

Our checklist on what to do after a hailstorm explains how to check things safely once the weather clears. If you're wondering whether a repair will be enough, repair or replace your roof lays out the questions to ask.

What we do in Cisco

Start with a free roof inspection, and you'll get a straightforward account of what's happening up there. If the problem is a single leak or a patch of missing shingles, roof repair is often enough. When severe weather is to blame, our storm and hail damage page explains your next moves, and when the whole roof is worn out, we'll talk through roof replacement for your home or commercial building.

We're glad to explain the general steps of insurance claims, but it's worth saying plainly: Roaring Ranger Roofing isn't a public adjuster, won't haggle with your insurer on your behalf, and can't cover the deductible, which Texas law leaves with the policyholder.
